Spring in the Rockies - sorta

I spent this past weekend playing in the mountains - I went scrambling on Sat and climbing on Sun.

Saturday - Steve, Kendra and I went out to the my favorit scramble/hike on Mt. Yamnuska. This climb has it all; stunning views, changing terrain and over a 1000 feet of scree surfing (running down a hillside that is covered in small pebbles).

Yes this is May! Look at the snow (this was high up on the mountain).

Almost at the top - this time I mean it!

Ooops - ok this time we're almost at the top!!

Spring break for kev

I hit my numbers for work last year so I made President's Club - which basically means you get a trip to Toronto for our company's Awards Banquet followed by a trip to Cancun. I extended my Toronto by a few days and enjoyed 5 great days back in the Tdot hanging with family and friends.

While there Rob planned a 'surprise' for my welcome home/upcoming birthday... dispite Bryden spilling the beans and telling me that were were infact going to Medieval Times.

For those of you who were there - here is the infamous picture, for those of you not there - lets just say Jay partied a little too hard and ended up puking all over James - surrounded by a couple thousand tourists.... Here you can see Jay in the background just starting to puke ;)

After a fun time in TO - I joined the other coworkers who made President's Club for a great trip down to Cancun... sadly my liver failed to come home... RIP liver - we had a good go!

Roz and I dressed up at the Awards Banquet (our boss made us wear this).

This was our family - the hotel screwed up our rooms so the 8 of us got upgraded to the super fancy resort next door.

Gary and I taking a break from drinking to play some awesome pool-side chess.

Kicking Horse Bitches!

So my buddy Dr. Susan from Vancity came to visit this past weekend - the two of us and my buddies Brad, Kent, Brian and Steve went to Golden BC to ski the bestest ski resort around; Kicking Horse.

So we rented a "cabin" which was conviently located beside the smokestack beloning to the plant. We got 3 days of the most rediculous skiing in - Kicking Horse has 4000 of vertical drop and you ski the whole mountain and ride the gondola up - so we probably got between 16000 - 20000 vertical feet of hard skiing in a day - with sick snow to boot....

We had beautiful ski conditions and blue skies

Hot boys - with long sticks

Oh and maybe a bit of drinking ;)

No Pants Party

So it's been a while since my last post - things have been super-duper busy (but in a good way). I moved into a great new place with my friend Jocelyn - its super cush (heated floors, underground parking and a great gas fireplace for Chewie).

So what to people do when they move to a great new place? Have a housewarming obviously - given that this was the first party I was throwing in Calgary I wanted to make it memorable - so I came up with a special theme - a NO PANTS PARTY. I didn't care what people wore as long as they didn't have pants on. Most people came with no pants on, others came and instantly stripped once they walked into the door and seeing 35 pants-less people.

Hey hey ladies... show me what you got

Damn - now there is some hotness... I think I just threw up in my mouth...

Rock out Bryden - don't worry no one you know will see this ;)

And this is what happens after everyone leaves and you keep drinking...

More skiing

This past weekend the skiing continued - I went to Lake Louise with my buddies Kent and Steve - my new friend Cori joined us too (she's one of the strongest girl-skiers I've ever met... she rips!).

Cori enjoying the sick view.

Anyways we skied som sweet runs - in the afternoon we decided to dip out of bounds for some 'near-country' skiing - which is the best of both worlds really in that you take the resort's lifts up and then dip out of bounds for amazing long runs with beautiful untracked powder and killer terrain.

Kent looking for some fly time.

One more of Kent as he's taking a drop.

New year... new blog

So after a 6 month break I decided to jump back on the blog train - I kinda like being able to scroll back and see what debauchary I was up to in the past year, and it gives some of you guys a chance to see why I moved out here...

I started the year off with a great trip down to Boca Raton (close to Miami) . I lived down there for 7 years - was great to see my
family and friends.

After 2 weeks of beaches and sunshine I was ready for more winter sports. We're having one of the best snow years in decades here (thanks el-nino, global warming or whatever cause this!). Lately I've been doing a lot of skiing - including backcountry skiing. I went out yesterday with my pals Kent and Jeremy for some amazing backcountry fun.
All this is a quick hour drive from my house!

We had a couple km's of touring (like cross country skiing but using your downhill skis) in before we started to climb up the mountain. This was at the beginning of our day - we skied the right side of the mountain behind me. It took 2 hours to ski up to the top of where we would ski down.

Jeremie happy to be done climbing!

Kent taking off his skins and getting ready for the amazing ride down!

I had to dig a pit just to stand - the snow was so deep! Here I am taking the skins off my skis and having a yummy warm cup of tea... beaches and sunshine - what's that!?

And finally - here's what its all about - amazing skiing down beautiful, untouched powder!

All smiles after a great day of skiing the pow-pow!
